EARLY POTATO EXPERT MEETING 2023

The Early Potato Expert Meeting took place on February 1st, 2023, at ROPA Rheinland, where experts and attendees discussed the opportunities and problems surrounding early potatoes and pre-germination. The ROPA in-house demonstration exhibited a new manual planting machine for pre-germinated potatoes, which can spread sprouts into the soil with seed potatoes without damaging them. The machine’s focus was on the workplace’s ergonomics, providing various options to make the staff’s work comfortable. The machine achieved a daily output of over 6 ha with a combination of gentle treatment of the pre-germinated potatoes and an exact and adjustable planting distance.

The new ROPA planting machine was well-received by the specialist audience, and many early potato producers were convinced of its solution of powerful and germ-free planting. In the following weeks, the new machines will prove themselves in practical use with early potato growers.
